Our Story
Since 1902, we’ve been dedicated to one mission: crafting the softest, most beautiful yarn for makers who pour their hearts into every stitch. What began in Boston as a small textile operation producing fine dyed yarns has grown into one of North America’s most beloved yarn brands — trusted by millions of knitters, crocheters, and fiber artists for over 120 years.

Our operations grew to multiple mills in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, establishing Bernat as a major American textile producer with nationwide reach.
We launched the Bernat Softee line — our first premium acrylic yarns that proved craft yarn could be both affordable and exceptionally soft.
We introduced Bernat Handicrafter Cotton and expanded distribution across the United States, giving crafters even more fiber choices.
